Last winter, I lost a friend, hero, and mentor Jack Hardy. His weekly songwriter’s exchange from his little apartment in Jack's NY’s west village apartment, was his gift to so many writers, myself included. I recorded an unreleased song of Jack’s (with vocal help from my buddy Anthony Da Costa ) for a tribute album that will be out on Smithsonian / Folkways later in the year. The record features a bunch of folks (Suzanne Vega, David Massengil, Nanci Griffith, John Gorka Suzzy Roach, a whole host of others) who’ve been a part of the exchange over the years, They’ve graciously suggested that we share the album with fans until the record comes out to spread the word. so for a limited time is available as a free download (along with a great 100 page booklet of essays and pics ) here tinyurl.com/jackhardy. enjoy, share!
Welcome! New website, New Year, New Record! We've put the finishing touches on the new record, which will be called 'Scrimshaw' . It was produced by my friend Todd Sickafoose , was recorded at Brooklyn Recording this Fall, and weaves together the voices and instruments of friends from New York and beyond. The new record will be out in April overseas, and I'll be down in Austin for SXSW this year, followed by tours of Netherlands and the UK to promote it, check the Calendar page for details. I've been making field recordings of the new songs and posting them here on the video page if you'd like a preview.
